The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is classified as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Climate change poses the greatest threat to polar bears, as melting sea ice reduces their habitat and access to prey, particularly seals. Other factors contributing to their vulnerability include pollution, industrial development in their habitats, and human-wildlife conflict. Conservation efforts aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting polar bear habitats are critical for their long-term survival.
